What is your favorite part about working at IDE?

The Atmosphere and the Challenge of fixing equipment and providing support over the phone for customers and technicians all over North America.  And passing down my knowledge and experience to newer technicians.

What do you think makes you unique as a team member?

Being able to help many people in different departments and job sites throughout the day.

What do you enjoy most about your job, and what are some of the challenges you face?

The fact that every day is different, and I never know who or where I’ll get a call from and what the issue may be. Some of the challenges are troubleshooting equipment over the phone to the best of my ability not knowing the experience level with whomever I may be speaking with at the time and guiding them through the circuits of the machine.

Can you share a project or accomplishment you’re particularly proud of that you worked on during your time here?

Learning the different machine manuals and parts books. And the hands-on experience over the years. Being able to navigate through hydraulic schematics and electrical diagrams.

How do you stay motivated and engaged in your work, and what advice would you give to others who are struggling with motivation?

Knowing the equipment and the work that the machines do is part of something bigger, building foundations for all sorts of things all over the country. Whether it be for a nuclear power plant or refinery or a structure in NYC or holding a mountainside in place. During my years of traveling with IDE, I found it to be motivating to return to a site that was once bare ground and to see the structure that was built and knowing that I was part of the success of whatever project. For those people that are struggling with motivation, I would ask them to take a second and think about what we are part of and what the equipment that we provide is out in the country building all sorts of things.

How does this company support your professional development, and what opportunities have you taken advantage of?

IDE has provided me with all the tools I need for success. All the hand tools or power tools to complete a mechanical task and the resources and support from the equipment manufacturers. Having support from the factories helps a lot in troubleshooting situations it helps a lot to minimize customer downtime which at the end of the day saves the customer money and hopefully makes them happier and more comfortable with the equipment.

How do you collaborate with your colleagues and team members, and what qualities do you think are essential for effective teamwork?

I try to stay in close contact either by phone or helping with technical questions in the shop with all of the service team, sales team, and parts team. I try to communicate clearly with our technicians working in the field while they are traveling and help them out in any way I can to get them back home to their families and to get the customer’s equipment back up and running if there are any issues. Being able to communicate efficiently and clearly are a must for effective teamwork.

How do you balance your work responsibilities with your personal life, and what strategies do you use to maintain that balance?

At times it can be hard because I answer phone calls from customers before and after normal working hours from job sites in different parts of the country. Being in the office these days Instead of in the field I have had more time to spend with my family than before.  Sometimes to maintain the balance I have to just turn my phone off

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Gardening, landscaping, reading, astronomy, calmness, and quietness.

What is something that you are proud of about yourself?

The time I spent in the USMC working on aircraft at a young age. My deployments during the war in Iraq. And the number of places I’ve been and seen. The amount of knowledge I have been presented with.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?

The North and South Poles of the planet due to the extreme wilderness. And to climb Mt. Everest or K2 for the extreme challenge.
