What is your favorite part about working at IDE?
At the risk of sounding cliché- the people. I thoroughly enjoy working with my colleagues, vendors, and customers alike to problem-solve and provide solutions. I love the fact that my position with IDE opens the door to working with people from many different cultures, locations, and fields of expertise.

What do you think makes you unique as a team member?
I believe a versatile skillset allows me to be unique. I never claim to be an expert at anything but know a little bit about a lot of things.

What do you enjoy most about your job, and what are some of the challenges you face?
I say often that I enjoy my job being simultaneously routine and non-routine. In the Parts department, we do the same thing all day long: find parts, buy parts, and sell parts- “rinse and repeat”, as the saying goes. However, we are always chasing solutions to different problems every day. Parts that aren’t routine get damaged and need replacing, items become discontinued, machine designs change often, and the supply chain can be unpredictable. These challenges keep us on our toes and we’re never bored!

Can you share a project or accomplishment you’re particularly proud of that you worked on during your time here?
One accomplishment I can speak to is building a strong, well-rounded team in my department. Each team member has a diverse background and strengths. They prove daily how to collaborate on orders and issues. I am very proud of each of my crew, and excited to see them continue to grow and learn.

How do you stay motivated and engaged in your work, and what advice would you give to others who are struggling with motivation?
My faith and my family keep me motivated. As a Christian, a lot of my work ethic is driven by a verse from the book of Colossians – “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men”. Secondly, I work to provide for my family so we can have the things we need, and a few of the things we want. My advice to the IDE team is this: IDE is a strong and growing company, with a bold future. IDE takes good care of its people, and that is only possible when we work hard, work smart, and work together.

How do you collaborate with your colleagues and team members, and what qualities do you think are essential for effective teamwork?
The departments of IDE are very much intertwined. Spare parts, service, sales, rentals, and tooling: directly or indirectly, each department influences the others in terms of sales. We must communicate effectively to be sure that we are all driving in the same direction. One thing that I believe IDE does well is emphasize a culture of teamwork. Day in and day out, I see people from different departments working together to find solutions. One quality for effective teamwork that comes to mind is humbleness- don’t be too proud to ask for help, and don’t be too proud to give it.

How do you balance your work responsibilities with your personal life, and what strategies do you use to maintain that balance?
I believe work-life balance is important. I strive to work efficiently so tasks are completed during normal hours, so I’m free to spend time with my family. Of course, emergency situations arise once in a while- but with good planning and preventative measures, I try to keep them to a minimum.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to cook outside using my grill and smoker. I’m not really one to brag about much… but I make some pretty tasty smoked buffalo wings.

What is something that you are proud of about yourself?
My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me early on in life. That work ethic was a driving force in completing my Bachelor’s Degree while working full time as well a few years ago before coming to IDE. In turn, what I learned during that process has helped propel me from a Parts Specialist to a department manager. I am proud of the promotions I’ve achieved in my professional career. I am blessed to say that I have been able to progress in every company I’ve been a part of over the past few years.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?
I feel most people would answer this question with somewhere they’ve never been before, but I’m a little different. I’d visit Ireland again. My wife and I went a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I fell in love with the landscape, the food, the music, the culture- the whole nine yards. I’d give anything to go back to Johnnie Fox’s Pub in the mountains of Glencullen, just outside of Dublin. It was the pub of my dreams- a rustic pub housing a combination of delicious food and live music, tucked away high in the mountains.
